The plant in Büsingen is the first solar district heating plant with a ground-mounted collector field in Germany: Indeed, if 100 m² of the Ritter XL vacuum-tube collectors could be installed on the central biomass heat station, the further 1000 m² found their place as two 500 m² fields north and south of the heat station. Thanks to the combination of this solar thermal plant and the biomass boiler, the new district heating net delivers 100% renewable heat to 100 buildings. Solar heat will cover 11 % of the total yearly heat demand.
