Decentral solar thermal energy for the district heating network of Jena in the German region Thuringia
Since January 2016, 100 m² of solar thermal collectors feed their heat production in the district heating net of Jena. The plant feeds decentrally in the district heating network without need for a storage.

The evacuated tube collectors are installed on a district heating station, and operated with water, which enables a connection to the district heating net without heat exchanger. The decentral plant should demonstrate how solar thermal can support district heating in a simple and effective way and become an example to follow, also with much larger solar plants. Already the next plant of this kind is in construction in Senftenberg, southern Brandenburg with a much larger collector area of 8 300 m².
