heat planning at local level, as required by the European Energy Efficiency Directive, is a key instrument for bringing forward the use of district heating and cooling in the communities of the EU countries. In many cases, good and reliable data on the heat demand would immediately show the advantages that district heating based on solar thermal, other renewables and efficiency technologies brings for citizens and local economies. Therefore the SDHplus team addresses representatives of local authorities and utilities as well as urban planners in its next international workshop ‘Solar and renewable district heating - a sustainable heat supply concept for local communities’. With our newsletter we would like to invite you to this upcoming event and inform you about further recent sector developments and project results. We hope to awake your interest in our activities. On 25 November 2014, local authorities’ representatives, heat suppliers and urban planners are invited to participate in an international workshop on solar and renewable district heating.

The existing plant with 5 000 m² on the roof of AEVG in Graz was built in 2007 and has been successfully in operation since. The plant has been extended with 2 000 m² and the new system is in operation since September 2014.
